Staff Forward Deployed AI Engineer

Location: Hybrid in San Diego, California, with reliable overlap with Colombia business hours

Base pay: $165,000–$200,000 per year

What you will do

• Manage and mentor two engineers, owning their technical growth, code quality, and delivery.
• Set engineering standards through code reviews, pairing, reference implementations, and reusable practices.
• Drive architecture decisions for agentic workflows, RAG pipelines, document processing, and production automation.
• Build and ship complex client systems end to end, including LLM orchestration, evaluation, data pipelines, APIs, and cloud infrastructure.
• Evaluate models, frameworks, and techniques and turn delivery lessons into reusable tooling, templates, and documentation.
• Collaborate with clients by explaining system designs, trade-offs, risks, scope, and delivery plans.

Requirements

• 8+ years of software engineering experience, including 2+ years building production LLM-powered systems such as RAG, agents, or structured extraction.
• Demonstrated technical leadership through mentoring or managing engineers and improving their performance.
• Expert-level Python and strong full-stack fundamentals.
• Production experience with AWS, GCP, or Azure, including deployment, monitoring, and maintenance.
• Working knowledge of prompt and context engineering, evaluation, embeddings, vector search, and agent orchestration frameworks.
• Based in San Diego, California, with reliable overlap with Colombia business hours; fluent English required for client communication.
