Staff Data Platform Engineer (AI)

Location: Remote, United States of America, New York, New York

Base compensation: $127,400–$236,600 USD per year, with potential eligibility for an annual bonus.

What you will do

• Own the technical roadmap for the data platform, balancing scalability, reliability, security, compliance, cost, and business priorities.
• Architect high-volume data pipelines and storage systems for legal and financial document data.
• Lead technology selection, system design, and infrastructure strategy across the platform.
• Advance data governance, privacy controls, compliance frameworks, and audit capabilities for regulated data.
• Partner with machine learning and AI leaders to support model training, evaluation, and inference at scale.
• Set technical standards, mentor engineers, represent the platform function in architecture decisions, and contribute code to critical systems.

Requirements

• 10+ years of software engineering experience, including at least 6 years focused on data platforms, infrastructure, or large-scale backend systems.
• Experience architecting distributed systems, high-throughput pipelines, and petabyte-scale or similarly complex data-processing environments.
• Deep knowledge of big data technologies, distributed databases, and modern data platforms.
• Strong production programming skills in Python, Java, C++, Rust, or Go.
• Expertise in data compliance, privacy engineering, and secure data handling in regulated environments.
• Experience building and mentoring engineering teams and delivering complex technical initiatives.

Nice to have

• Experience in a high-growth environment where platform infrastructure was critical to business success.
• Leadership of major architectural transitions or platform migrations.
• Technical writing or public speaking on data systems, architecture, or engineering practices.
• Experience with machine learning infrastructure, feature stores, or AI workload platforms.
• Background in legal technology, financial services, or another highly regulated industry.
