Data & ML Platform Lead (AI)

Location: London, UK. Hybrid working requires at least two days per week or 40% of working time at an office site.

Salary: £107,304–£126,240 per year.

What you will do

• Lead the team building and operating the infrastructure at the core of Curve’s business.
• Own streaming and batch data ingestion, reverse-ETL, real-time fraud and financial-crime decisioning, and ML platform capabilities.
• Design and operate Kafka-based decisioning services, data pipelines, orchestration, feature stores, and cloud infrastructure.
• Lead architectural work while remaining hands-on with complex platform engineering challenges.
• Build reliable, observable, auditable platforms with clear SLAs, monitoring, alerting, load testing, and capacity planning.
• Set technical direction, delegate effectively, and develop engineers into owners of the systems they operate.

Requirements

• Significant experience in data engineering, platform engineering, or similar roles, with sustained technical leadership experience.
• Production experience with streaming technologies, ideally Kafka, and event-driven architectures at scale.
• Experience designing and operating production systems on GCP, including BigQuery, Managed Airflow, Cloud Run, and Dataflow, or equivalent cloud infrastructure.
• Strong Python programming skills and experience with a systems language, ideally Go.
• Experience with real-time services, batch and streaming data pipelines, Airflow, Terraform, Kubernetes, and infrastructure as code.
• Experience operating ML systems in production and working within regulated environments with audit trails, control evidencing, change governance, and compliance requirements.

Nice to have

• Experience with LLM and agentic AI workflows in production.
• Experience in financial crime, fraud, credit, risk decisioning, fintech, payments, or retail banking.
• Experience with Feast, Snowplow, dbt enablement, or load-testing frameworks for data-intensive systems.
• Experience integrating platforms with large banking organisations or operating high-volume transaction platforms.
