Principal Software Engineer (Data Infrastructure)

Location: San Francisco, United States; hybrid work model with in-office attendance required on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Local Pacific Time hours are expected, with flexibility across time zones when necessary. Travel to hirify.global offices or other locations may be required. Relocation to the United States is offered based on job level.

Base salary: $197,000–$230,000 per year, plus potential equity awards and annual bonus.

What you will do

• Define the architecture for declarative, configuration-driven ingestion from relational databases and object-store files.
• Design reusable, versioned libraries for data protection, anonymization, tokenization, governed access, and audit trails.
• Establish infrastructure-as-code, deployment, rollback, lifecycle, compute, cost, and sizing standards for large-scale data platforms.
• Build monitoring, alerting, reconciliation, recovery, and data validation capabilities for reliable source-to-destination operations.
• Run structured proofs of concept, document architectural decisions, evaluate tradeoffs, and work with technology vendors.
• Partner with Data Engineering, Data Governance, Information Security, DBAs, and source-system owners while mentoring engineers and raising platform engineering standards.

Requirements

• 10+ years of software or data platform engineering experience building frameworks, libraries, or infrastructure used by multiple teams.
• Bachelor’s degree or higher, or equivalent education and experience.
• Strong infrastructure-as-code and CI/CD experience, including Terraform.
• Deep experience with ingestion across databases, files, APIs, and custom systems, including incremental processing, CDC, schema evolution, and source-system protection.
• Advanced Python, SQL, and Scala or Java skills, with Spark UDF and reusable-library development experience.
• Hands-on Databricks, Delta Lake, Unity Catalog, Auto Loader, workflows, compute, governance, security, privacy, and billion-row data systems experience.

Nice to have

• Experience in banking, lending, regulated environments, model risk management, SOX, or similar audit requirements.
• Experience with data quality, lineage, catalog tooling, data contracts, or Databricks Asset Bundles.
• Previous Principal Engineer, Staff Engineer, or technical lead experience on a platform engineering team.
