Data Engineer

Location: Remote-first; work from anywhere in the US and Canada. Optional offices are available in Washington, DC, and New York City, with coworking opportunities in the Bay Area, Seattle, Denver, Boston, Los Angeles, and other locations.

Base compensation: $130,000–$180,000 per year, depending on leveling and experience, plus bonus and stock options.

What you will do

• Build and maintain production pipelines for survey responses, pricing series, volume and capacity forecasts, and buyer participation data.
• Automate survey ingestion, cleaning, joining, scheduling, and monitoring workflows.
• Develop foundational datasets and reporting-layer integrations for research, publications, dashboards, and client deliverables.
• Turn recurring research questions into repeatable queries and productized data workflows.
• Strengthen data practices through input validation, automated testing, documentation, version control, and reproducible outputs.
• Identify additional data use cases across teams and communicate technical tradeoffs, risks, and limitations to technical and nontechnical stakeholders.

Requirements

• 3+ years of experience building and maintaining production data pipelines in high-growth environments.
• Fluency in Python and SQL, including production code, testing, debugging, and complex queries.
• Experience with cloud data warehousing, schema design, incremental loading, query optimization, and cost management.
• Hands-on experience with extraction, transformation, loading, scheduling, monitoring, and established data-quality practices.
• Ability to translate business or research needs into technical requirements, implementation plans, and deliverables.
• Hands-on experience with AI-enabled tools for software development, data analysis, testing, documentation, or workflow automation.

Nice to have

• Experience with energy, finance, transaction, or market intelligence data.
• Exposure to research, forecasting, survey analysis, or data-intensive publications.
• Experience supporting analytical or statistical models, including model testing, validation, missing values, and outliers.
• Familiarity with data visualization, business intelligence, or reporting tools.
