Sr Principal / Architect Engineer, Software - Backend, AI Observability/Evaluations (Chronosphere)

What you will do

• Build backend capabilities for observing and evaluating AI models, agents, and retrieval-augmented generation applications before and during production.
• Design systems for systematic testing, measurement, and benchmarking of AI accuracy, relevance, performance, and safety.
• Develop scalable APIs and data-processing systems that contextualize AI telemetry and evaluation results.
• Shape the technical roadmap and architecture for AI Observability and Evaluation features.
• Collaborate with product managers, engineers, and customers to deliver integrated features and developer workflows.
• Improve distributed-system observability, performance, reliability, and cost efficiency while mentoring engineers.

Requirements

• 12–15+ years of software engineering experience.
• Strong experience with one or more backend languages, such as Go, Java, Python, or Rust.
• Experience building and operating highly available production systems and working with AWS, GCP, or Azure.
• Experience designing scalable REST, gRPC, or GraphQL APIs.
• Experience owning projects from inception through delivery and collaborating effectively with cross-functional partners.
• Ability to work effectively in a remote-first environment from Victoria, Australia.

Nice to have

• Experience developing LLM-powered product features.
• Experience using AI coding assistants such as Cursor, Codex, or Claude.
