Staff Software Engineer, Internal Tools (AI)

Location: Redwood City, California, United States; hybrid with onsite work required at least 60% of the working month, approximately three days per week.

Base pay: $214,000–$268,000 per year, plus potential discretionary annual performance bonus.

What you will do

• Own technical direction and end-to-end delivery for a domain of internal tools, from business needs through deployment, adoption, and ongoing operation.
• Build production applications, backend services, enterprise integrations, and shared capabilities for business teams.
• Design and build AI-powered agents, workflows, and retrieval or knowledge infrastructure with appropriate evaluation, permissions, reliability, and human oversight.
• Lead architecture decisions, establish reusable engineering patterns, and partner with the Senior Staff technology lead on platform direction.
• Own production readiness, observability, failure handling, maintainability, and reliability for shipped systems.
• Partner with business stakeholders, PMO, and embedded engineers to prioritize work, resolve dependencies, drive adoption, and improve engineering quality.

Requirements

• 10+ years of experience building production software with demonstrated Staff-level scope and influence across complex systems and workstreams.
• Strong full-stack engineering fundamentals, with depth in backend services, enterprise integrations, and end-to-end production applications.
• Production experience building LLM-based applications, custom agents, or agentic workflows.
• Strong enterprise SaaS integration experience, including authentication, authorization, rate limits, schema changes, and failure recovery.
• Working fluency with MCP, LLM tool or function calling, agent frameworks, and retrieval or knowledge infrastructure.
• Strong technical planning, product judgment, stakeholder communication, and ability to explain tradeoffs across technical and nontechnical teams.

Nice to have

• Background in enterprise IT, business systems, or platform engineering.
• Experience operating AWS infrastructure and using Terraform.
• Experience establishing shared engineering patterns across teams.
