Director, Technology (Data Engineering)

Location: Austin, Texas, United States

Salary: $231,000–$323,500 annual total cash range, with potential pay up to $369,500 based on sustained performance.

What you will do

• Set and execute multi-year data and technology strategy for Marketing Automation, MarTech, personalization, customer engagement, and Digital Operations.
• Lead data engineering, software engineering, AI, innovation, experimentation, and emerging technology capabilities.
• Build and evolve scalable data pipelines, data products, APIs, integrations, workflow automation, and developer tooling.
• Establish practices for data quality, observability, lineage, governance, privacy, security, reliability, and incident response.
• Enable machine learning, generative AI, intelligent automation, experimentation, and responsible AI adoption.
• Build and develop a high-performing organization of engineering leaders and individual contributors while managing roadmaps, modernization, costs, and technical debt.

Requirements

• 10+ years of experience in data engineering, software engineering, platform engineering, or a related discipline, including 3+ years leading managers or multidisciplinary engineering teams.
• Experience defining technology strategy and operating production-grade data platforms, pipelines, integrations, software services, and automation at enterprise scale.
• Strong knowledge of data architecture, data modeling, ETL/ELT, batch and streaming systems, APIs, event-driven design, orchestration, and distributed processing.
• Experience with SQL, Python, cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure, Spark, CI/CD, observability, and infrastructure automation.
• Experience with data governance, security, privacy, responsible AI, production operations, incident management, modernization, and platform simplification.
• Strong communication, influencing, organizational leadership, and cross-functional partnership skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with Salesforce Marketing Cloud, Adobe Marketo, Eloqua, customer data platforms, identity resolution, consent management, audience activation, or personalization ecosystems.
• Experience with generative AI, predictive analytics, AI agents, model operations, LLM operations, or AI-enabled engineering productivity.
• Familiarity with GDPR, CCPA, responsible AI governance, semantic layers, metrics platforms, self-service analytics, and cloud migration programs.
• Experience managing strategic technology vendors and working in global, matrixed, consumer-facing, or high-volume digital environments.
