Senior Data Engineer (Geospatial)

Location: Hybrid role based in Arlington, Virginia, with work from the office 3 days per week.

Salary: $142,800–$178,500 USD annual base salary for US locations.

What you will do

• Architect and oversee robust, high-availability data pipelines for global monitoring products.
• Design and implement end-to-end data architectures for mission-critical, customer-facing solutions.
• Define standards for maintaining, troubleshooting, optimizing, and monitoring data ecosystems.
• Partner with product, commercial, engineering, and leadership stakeholders on long-term data strategy.
• Lead technical design reviews, mentor engineers, and maintain architectural and code-quality standards.
• Build CI/CD, orchestration, automated QA, and production integrations for data systems.

Requirements

• 6–8 years of relevant data engineering experience with a record of technical leadership.
• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
• Expert proficiency in Python and SQL for complex ETL/ELT pipelines and event-driven data architectures.
• Experience with enterprise-grade codebases, GitLab CI, Docker, Kubernetes, and cloud-native architectures, preferably GCP.
• Experience tuning storage formats such as Parquet for sub-second query performance.
• Strong communication, independent problem-solving, and ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions.

Nice to have

• Experience with modern data tooling such as dbt.
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform.
• Experience architecting solutions for geospatial datasets.
• Knowledge of earth observation or satellite operations.
