Underwriter (Property & Casualty)

Location: Hybrid work from the Los Angeles or Carlsbad, California offices; legal authorization to work in the United States is required.

Salary: $57,000–$100,000 USD annually.

What you will do

• Review commercial insurance applications and approve, decline, or mitigate risks within underwriting authority.
• Determine coverage levels, pricing, and policy value based on exposures and individual risk characteristics.
• Prepare referral submissions for risks exceeding authority limits and document risk analysis and pricing justification.
• Ensure underwriting activities comply with industry and government regulations.
• Use databases and specialized software to verify submission data, compare risks, and support accurate pricing.
• Guide clients, collaborate with underwriting and other teams, and process approved quotes through policy issuance.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree.
• 1–5 years of Property & Casualty underwriting or related insurance experience.
• Strong customer service skills and the ability to collaborate across teams.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and the ability to learn industry-specific software quickly.
• Flexibility, willingness to learn, and ability to adapt to changing priorities.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.

Nice to have

• CPCU, CIC, CRIS, or a Property & Casualty broker’s license.
