Staff AI Engineer

Location: Remote across the United States. Team members located within 40 miles of the Scottsdale headquarters are expected to work onsite four days per week.

Expected hiring range: $115,000–$205,000 annually.

What you will do

• Architect, build, deploy, and operate production-grade AI systems and agentic workflows across the software development lifecycle and business processes.
• Develop reusable internal AI platform services, infrastructure, patterns, and guardrails for secure, observable, production-scale automation.
• Own solutions end to end, from problem definition and architecture through implementation, deployment, security, observability, scaling, and ongoing operations.
• Integrate AI models and agents with developer tools, enterprise systems, APIs, data sources, and engineering workflows.
• Design AI evaluation, quality measurement, failure handling, reliability, and continuous-improvement approaches.
• Provide technical leadership through architecture reviews, design decisions, mentorship, and cross-team influence.

Requirements

• 10+ years of professional software engineering experience designing, building, and operating complex production-scale systems.
• Hands-on experience delivering AI/ML or generative AI solutions to production or measurable business outcomes, including LLMs, AI agents, or AI-enabled application architectures.
• Strong software architecture, distributed systems, system design, technical judgment, and cross-functional influence.
• Strong programming skills in Java, Python, Go, or an equivalent production language.
• Deep hands-on experience with GCP and/or AWS, cloud-native production systems, DevOps, CI/CD, infrastructure as code, observability, reliability, and production operations.
• Understanding of application, infrastructure, data, and AI security, as well as end-to-end software development and developer workflows.

Nice to have

• Experience with agentic AI systems, multi-step workflows, tool-using agents, or autonomous engineering workflows.
• Experience applying AI to developer productivity, code generation, testing, code review, incident management, or other SDLC stages.
• Experience building internal developer platforms, engineering productivity platforms, or enterprise automation capabilities.
• Experience with AI evaluation frameworks, model and agent observability, prompt and context management, retrieval architectures, and production AI quality measurement.
• Experience leading initiatives across multiple teams, systems, or organizational domains.
