Staff Software Engineer, Expansion Experiences (Ruby on Rails/React)

Location: San Francisco, CA — hybrid. Office attendance is expected approximately 2–3 days per week for employees based in San Francisco, Denver, or New York City; onboarding travel to a hirify.global office is required. The San Francisco office expectation includes the San Jose metro area. Approved employees working outside a hirify.global office must maintain a secure, reliable, and consistent internet connection.

Cash compensation: $164,000–$204,000 in Denver and most remote locations; $199,000–$247,000 in San Francisco and New York. Stock equity is additional.

What you will do

• Design, build, and test customer-facing experiences for recommendations, nurture campaigns, booking flows, and plan upgrades and retention.
• Run A/B tests and phased rollouts to improve conversion, adoption, and retention.
• Design reliable backend APIs and data models supporting personalization, recommendations, and multi-step customer journeys.
• Work across the full product lifecycle, from concept and prototyping through launch and iteration.
• Mentor engineers and improve technical execution, product quality, and responsible use of AI.
• Collaborate with Product Management, Design, Data, and Platform Engineering.

Requirements

• Typically 8+ years of software development experience.
• Experience building scalable solutions in growth, lifecycle, conversion, onboarding, upsell, personalization, or recommendation contexts.
• Experience owning complex, multi-quarter engineering projects with measurable customer impact.
• Ability to design and interpret experiments, work with ambiguous requirements, and address performance and reliability issues.
• Ability to mentor engineers and communicate effectively with engineering teams and business stakeholders.
• Experience using AI tools or systems to accelerate development, improve testing, or deliver product capabilities.

Nice to have

• Experience in or interest in Ruby on Rails, React, GraphQL, and TypeScript.
• Experience with large-scale refactoring and maintaining well-structured, well-documented code.
• Appreciation for a collaborative, test-driven environment.
