Database Administrator

What you will do

• Support and maintain production databases, investigate incidents, and resolve service issues.
• Monitor database health, availability, and performance, identifying opportunities for improvement.
• Perform and validate database backups and restores and support disaster recovery arrangements.
• Manage database access and implement changes through security and change-control processes.
• Maintain operational documentation and share technical knowledge with colleagues.

Requirements

• At least two years of experience supporting production systems with hands-on relational database administration, development, or operations experience.
• Practical skills in SQL, query optimisation, index design and maintenance, execution plan analysis, database schemas, and design principles.
• Experience with backup strategies, database restoration, recovery models, high availability, and disaster recovery.
• Understanding of database access controls, least privilege, data migration, and ETL processes.
• Ability to write and maintain reliable SQL and administrative scripts and apply production changes with impact assessment, testing, and rollback planning.
• Eligibility to obtain the security clearance required for the role.

Nice to have

• Experience testing database code or administrative scripts, including unit testing where appropriate.
• Understanding of ITIL incident, problem, and change management.
• Experience with Microsoft Azure, AWS, or wider IT infrastructure.
