Test Equipment Controls Engineer (Automation)

Location: Buffalo, NY, United States; onsite work schedule. The posting also lists remote availability. Access to U.S. export-controlled information is required.

What you will do

• Own the reliability, configuration, performance, and continuous improvement of production and engineering test stands.
• Troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, instrumentation, controls, and software issues.
• Design, modify, upgrade, and commission test equipment, control panels, instrumentation systems, and data acquisition hardware.
• Develop and troubleshoot PLC logic, HMI and GUI applications, and integrated automated test controls.
• Integrate sensors, PLCs, servo drives, motors, measurement systems, and data acquisition platforms.
• Lead root cause investigations, corrective actions, documentation, calibration planning, and modernization initiatives.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, electrical, mechatronics, controls engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• 5+ years of experience with industrial test equipment, automation systems, controls systems, or complex manufacturing equipment.
• Experience programming, troubleshooting, and commissioning PLC-based control systems.
• Experience with industrial instrumentation, sensors, signal conditioning, measurement systems, and data acquisition hardware.
• Hands-on experience with electromechanical, hydraulic, servo-controlled, or automated systems.
• Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and root cause analysis skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with PC-based test software, HMI applications, graphical user interfaces, National Instruments hardware, or LabVIEW.
• Experience integrating PLCs, HMIs, motion control systems, instrumentation, and data acquisition platforms.
• Experience modernizing legacy equipment and supporting automated test stands or production testing environments.
• Familiarity with servo motors, closed-loop control systems, and industrial automation technologies.
