Senior Data Engineer (Databricks)

Location: Hybrid in Lisbon, Portugal

What you will do

• Design and implement complex data pipelines and platform architecture using Databricks, Spark, PySpark, and Delta Lake.
• Own platform technical direction, including compute strategy, governance, data modeling, scalability, performance, and reliability.
• Lead deployment execution, CI/CD, observability, incident resolution, and FinOps initiatives.
• Define data engineering standards and lead the day-to-day delivery of a small engineering pod.
• Mentor junior and mid-level engineers and contribute to hiring, onboarding, and engineering practice improvements.
• Collaborate with analysts, data management, IT, architecture, group data teams, and business stakeholders on end-to-end solutions and platform integrations.

Requirements

• Hands-on Databricks experience, including Spark/PySpark, Delta Lake, job orchestration, cluster configuration, and performance tuning.
• Experience with Unity Catalog, data governance, access management, data modeling, and ETL processes.
• Advanced SQL and Python skills, plus strong knowledge of Azure Data Services, including Azure Data Factory.
• Experience with CI/CD, version control, deployment automation, monitoring, observability, and cloud cost management.
• At least 5 years of experience in data engineering or data and analytics roles, including experience leading a small engineering team and platform migrations.
• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field; fluent spoken and written English required.
