Senior Data Engineer (Databricks)

Location: Portugal; hybrid work. Candidates must live in Portugal or be legally qualified and willing to live and work there.

Salary: €39,360–€60,600 gross per year.

What you will do

• Build and maintain production data workloads in Databricks using PySpark and Delta Lake.
• Develop streaming and incremental ingestion pipelines with patterns such as idempotency, checkpointing, and schema evolution.
• Design data models for BI and analytics and write optimized SQL queries.
• Implement testing, data quality checks, CI/CD pipelines, and engineering standards for Databricks workflows.
• Collaborate with engineering and product development teams on complex data projects.
• Use agentic AI tools such as Cursor IDE and GitHub Copilot for development, refactoring, and debugging.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in data engineering or a closely related role.
• Production experience with Databricks, including PySpark and Delta Lake.
• Strong SQL skills, including window functions, complex joins, and query tuning.
• Experience with streaming or incremental ingestion and data modeling for BI and analytics.
• Knowledge of testing, data quality practices, Git, code review, linters, unit tests, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Fluent English and legal eligibility to live and work in Portugal.
