Principal Cloud Engineer

Location: Portland, Maine, USA; campus-based with four days onsite per week. Other listed location: Chattanooga, Tennessee, USA.

Base salary: $109,100–$224,000 per year, depending on skills, geographic location, and experience.

What you will do

• Define enterprise cloud architecture, reference patterns, standards, landing zones, network designs, identity models, and resilience strategies across AWS and Azure.
• Lead complex cloud migration, modernization, infrastructure, and automation initiatives.
• Design and standardize Terraform modules, state management, reusable infrastructure-as-code patterns, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Embed DevSecOps through security scanning, secrets management, vulnerability management, policy-as-code, encryption, logging, and monitoring.
• Drive cloud governance, capacity planning, FinOps, cost optimization, performance testing, and disaster recovery validation.
• Mentor engineers, advise senior leaders and business partners, and serve as a technical authority across the enterprise.

Requirements

• Four days onsite per week at the Portland, Maine campus are required.
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, engineering, or a related field, or equivalent specialized experience.
• 8+ years of related experience designing and operating cloud environments.
• Advanced hands-on expertise with both AWS and Azure, plus advanced Terraform and infrastructure-as-code skills.
• Strong DevSecOps, CI/CD, cloud networking, identity and access management, container security, observability, and disaster recovery experience.
• Experience with Python, PowerShell, Bash, Kubernetes, Windows, Linux, Active Directory or Entra ID, storage, databases, data privacy, enterprise architecture, and technical leadership.

Nice to have

• GCP experience.
• Certifications such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect Professional, Microsoft Azure Solutions Architect Expert, HashiCorp Terraform certification, AWS Security Specialty, Azure Security Engineer, or CISSP.
