Staff Data Engineer (AI)

Location: Remote across Germany, with access to the headquarters in Cologne and occasional in-person team meetings. Workation is available for up to 60 days per year from locations within ±4 hours of the German time zone.

What you will do

• Own and evolve data architecture across the Data & Intelligence cluster.
• Build batch and streaming pipelines for charging, POI, traffic, and market data using Spark, Kafka, and Debezium.
• Analyze complex datasets and turn findings into recommendations for stakeholders and customers.
• Research, build, backtest, and monitor forecasting models for charge point and site utilization.
• Develop and simulate smart pricing approaches based on market data, forecasts, and events.
• Lead architectural decisions, AWS and Databricks infrastructure choices, technical communication, and knowledge sharing.

Requirements

• Staff Engineer-level experience or equivalent technical leadership across teams.
• Strong production-scale experience with Python, Spark, relational and NoSQL databases, and modern table formats such as Delta Lake, Iceberg, or Parquet.
• Experience designing batch and streaming architectures with Kafka, RabbitMQ, or CDC tools such as Debezium.
• Strong AWS experience and understanding of how cloud infrastructure affects data delivery.
• Experience with complex data analysis, forecasting research, backtesting, error metrics, and drift monitoring.
• Fluent English required; German is beneficial.

Nice to have

• Experience with Kubernetes or Dagster.
• Experience in e-mobility, energy, or mobility data.
• German language skills.
