Staff Data Engineer (AI Native)

Location: Remote within the United States or Canada

Salary: $190,000–$280,500 USD for US-based candidates; 220,000–260,000 CAD for Canada-based candidates. Canadian positions use the title Developer instead of Engineer.

What you will do

• Design and manage scalable data platforms for real-time analytics, batch processing, and exploratory analysis.
• Own ingestion, ETL, storage, and serving across Kafka, Kinesis, MySQL, DynamoDB, APIs, and Databricks.
• Build Bronze, Silver, and Gold medallion-layer data models and reliable, well-documented schemas.
• Automate and harden workflows with testing, data quality checks, CI/CD, and infrastructure as code.
• Build AI-assisted tooling, prompts, agent workflows, and Databricks Genie chatbots for natural-language data access.
• Partner with Analytics Engineering, Data Science, product analytics, and other teams to deliver production-ready datasets.

Requirements

• 10+ years of experience with high-volume data infrastructure.
• Experience with Databricks, AWS, Apache Spark, Spark Streaming, Apache Airflow/MWAA, SQL, and Python.
• Experience with data quality frameworks such as Great Expectations or DQX, schema enforcement, and automated monitoring.
• Ability to design logical and physical data models, optimize SQL, and tune system performance.
• Familiarity with Terraform or similar infrastructure-as-code tools.
• Strong independent communication skills and a BS in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or equivalent hands-on experience.
