Live Unit Subtitler

Location: London, United Kingdom; mainly home-based with required touchdown days at the Osterley or Chilworth office when required. Part-time weekend shifts run between Friday and Sunday.

What you will do

• Produce and deliver live subtitles for programming across hirify.global's live channels, including sports and news content such as Formula 1 and Premier League football.
• Use respeaking techniques and Dragon NaturallySpeaking to generate subtitles for instant transmission in line with Ofcom guidelines and hirify.global SLAs.
• Support AI-assisted subtitling workflows by monitoring ASR services, maintaining topic models, and using related operational tools.
• Repurpose live captions for repeat showings and edit newsroom computer system text into prepared one- or two-line subtitles.
• Communicate with newsroom editors, technical staff, and other contacts to obtain information and coordinate captioning work.
• Log transmission failures, complete fault logs, and respond to or escalate operational and technical problems.

Requirements

• Demonstrable working experience of live subtitling in a broadcast environment is essential.
• Proficiency in respeaking techniques, speech-recognition software, and live subtitling systems such as WinCaps Q-Live and Dragon NaturallySpeaking.
• In-depth knowledge of sport and current affairs, with a keen interest in sports and news.
• Willingness and ability to learn new technologies and workflows, including AI-assisted subtitling tools.
• Knowledge of and ability to use MS Word and Excel.
• Ability to adapt to different subtitling styles and improve output when required.
• Familiarity with programme compliance issues.
• Excellent English grammar and spelling, attention to detail, and the ability to work flexibly between Friday and Sunday every week.
