Senior Manager – Data Engineering & Machine Learning

Location: Hybrid role in Amsterdam, Netherlands; minimum two days per week at the Amsterdam HQ

What you will do

• Lead and develop a team of eight Data Engineers and Machine Learning specialists across Amsterdam and Lisbon.
• Set technical direction and priorities across Data Engineering and Machine Learning.
• Modernise infrastructure for production model serving and introduce a feature store for consistent model training and serving.
• Improve data pipelines, integrations, observability, cost controls, deployment, monitoring, and operational reliability.
• Support recommendation, cancellation, and bidder-risk models by connecting model performance to product outcomes.
• Partner with Product, Engineering, Analytics, and business stakeholders while helping shape the Technology department's strategy.

Requirements

• Deep experience in Data Engineering or Machine Learning Engineering, with practical knowledge of the other discipline.
• Experience leading experienced engineers or ML specialists, coaching their development, and setting clear expectations.
• Strong architecture and systems-thinking skills across data platforms, distributed systems, and production infrastructure.
• Experience deploying, monitoring, and operating machine learning systems in production.
• Relevant cloud platform experience, such as GCP with BigQuery, Vertex AI, and Kubernetes, or equivalent AWS services.
• Experience with Kafka, event-driven systems, modern data integration tools, and communicating technical trade-offs to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
