Senior Backend Engineer (Python/AI)

What you will do

• Design and build AI-enabled features that turn search behavior, diagnostics, and quality data into actionable insights.
• Build Python backend services and APIs for collecting and combining human relevance judgments.
• Transform an offline evaluation tool into on-demand environments that developers can run in CI/CD pipelines.
• Define and automate accuracy and reliability checks for AI features, including LLM-based relevance judgments.
• Collaborate with product, design, data science, and Search teams to move prototypes into production.
• Integrate with existing platforms and APIs while monitoring quality, latency, and cost.

Requirements

• Five or more years of professional experience in software engineering, data engineering, machine learning, or applied AI.
• Hands-on experience building production LLM applications, including prompt design, structured outputs, and API integration.
• Strong Python, SQL, backend service, API, testing, and data engineering skills.
• Understanding of embeddings, semantic search, hybrid retrieval, ranking metrics, evaluation benchmarks, and human review.
• Experience delivering AI-enabled systems beyond isolated proofs of concept, with attention to reliability, safety, and measurable outcomes.
• Experience with CI/CD, containerization, and cloud infrastructure; Microsoft Azure experience is preferred.

Nice to have

• Retail or ecommerce search experience, including product taxonomy and long-tail queries.
• Experience with Elasticsearch, vector databases, search or recommendation evaluation, and A/B testing tooling.
• Experience building human annotation or rating tools.
• Experience with Kafka, event streaming, clickstream, or web analytics data.
