Senior Backend Engineer, AI Platform

Location: Remote within the United States; Sarasota, Florida, US. US-based candidates authorized to work in the United States are required.

What you will do

• Build greenfield core AI infrastructure for a platform serving millions of active users.
• Develop and operate production LLM-backed features, including retrieval-augmented generation, streaming responses, and tool use.
• Design LLM serving infrastructure with multi-provider routing, failover, token streaming, and cost and usage metering.
• Build retrieval systems with vector search, embedding pipelines, context assembly, and citation-backed answers.
• Own backend services end to end, from API schema and deployment through on-call support.
• Work with the platform architect and other developers to establish engineering practices for the growing AI team.

Requirements

• 5+ years of backend engineering experience in a statically typed language such as Go, Java, Kotlin, or C#.
• Production experience shipping and operating LLM-backed features.
• Hands-on experience with LLM serving, retrieval systems, vector search, embedding pipelines, and context assembly.
• Strong API design skills and experience owning services through deployment and on-call operations.
• Ability to evaluate AI answer relevance, safety, and source quality using repeatable tests.
• US-based and authorized to work in the United States.

Nice to have

• Strong Go experience and Python experience.
• Experience with LLM gateways or serving infrastructure such as LiteLLM, vLLM, or TGI.
• Experience with Qdrant, pgvector, fine-tuning open-weight models, content moderation, or safety tooling.
• Familiarity with Ruby on Rails or React/TypeScript.
