Senior Embedded Safety Engineer (Robotics)

Base salary: $170,000–$190,000 per year, plus equity

What you will do

• Define and drive the functional safety strategy for autonomous heavy equipment platforms.
• Evaluate ISO 26262, IEC 61508, and other applicable standards for emerging off-road autonomous machinery.
• Perform hazard analyses, risk assessments, and failure mode evaluations across embedded software, electronics, sensors, and machine control systems.
• Translate system-level hazards into hardware and software safety requirements, mechanisms, and design constraints.
• Define verification and validation strategies, maintain traceability, and build evidence for defensible safety cases.
• Investigate safety-related defects, guide corrective actions, and assess or block releases when critical requirements are not met.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Robotics, Systems Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
• 5+ years of professional experience in embedded systems, functional safety, or safety-critical product development with senior-level technical ownership.
• Direct experience shipping a safety-critical product involving both hardware and software.
• Hands-on experience with functional safety standards such as ISO 26262 or IEC 61508.
• Experience defining safety requirements, conducting hazard and failure mode analyses, and developing verification strategies.
• Strong understanding of embedded hardware and software interactions, with the ability to make independent decisions across multidisciplinary teams.

Nice to have

• Experience with autonomous vehicles, robotics, aerospace, or heavy equipment.
• Experience establishing safety strategies for new products or technologies with evolving requirements.
• Familiarity with safety cases, certification processes, and safety evidence management.
• Experience with safety mechanisms involving sensors, actuators, controllers, or machine interfaces.
• Experience supporting safety-critical products through field deployment and operation.
