BESS Development Manager

Location: Remote. The role requires travel as needed and experience with U.S. ISO/RTO or utility interconnection jurisdictions.

What you will do

• Originate and manage a battery energy storage pipeline covering standalone, co-located, and solar retrofit projects.
• Own interconnection strategy, applications, study reviews, agreements, milestones, permitting, and engagement with utilities, authorities, fire officials, and communities.
• Structure offtake, tolling, capacity, merchant, land, lease, easement, and host-agreement arrangements.
• Define technology and procurement strategies, including chemistry, system architecture, vendor selection, warranties, service coverage, and long-term support.
• Build project pro formas, sensitivity analyses, investment memoranda, development budgets, and diligence packages.
• Prepare project handoff packages for Project Delivery and remain accountable for development-origin obligations until closure.

Requirements

• At least five years of renewable energy development experience, including battery storage or solar-plus-storage development through interconnection, permitting, and commercial close.
• Working knowledge of U.S. ISO/RTO or utility interconnection processes, cost allocation, surplus interconnection service, and material modification pathways.
• Advanced Excel and financial modeling skills, including building and defending project pro formas and sensitivity analyses.
• Working knowledge of storage technology and safety fundamentals, including LFP chemistry, AC/DC architectures, NFPA 855, UL 9540, and UL 9540A.
• Experience negotiating land and commercial agreements, with awareness of tax credit, financing, lender, and tax equity consent requirements.
• Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, engineering, renewable energy, or a related field, or equivalent experience; a valid driver’s license and ability to travel are required.

• Experience developing storage at existing operating solar sites.
• Experience with acquired development portfolios, operations, or asset management.
