Sr./Staff Data Engineer

Location: Hybrid role for candidates in the Bay Area, San Mateo, California

Salary: $160,000–$180,000 per year, plus potential stock options

What you will do

• Design, develop, and implement backend and machine learning data infrastructure.
• Build event-based ingestion, stream processing, data warehouse, ETL, feature-engineering, and model-running pipelines.
• Develop analytics tools that support customer acquisition, operational efficiency, business intelligence, and product development.
• Create tools for data analysts and data scientists while keeping data separated and secure across national boundaries, data centers, and AWS regions.
• Improve end-to-end data processing through troubleshooting, performance benchmarking, load balancing, and code reviews.
• Mentor data engineers and provide technical guidance on architecture and engineering practices.

Requirements

• 5+ years of professional experience in data engineering, software engineering, or a closely related field.
• Strong proficiency in Python and SQL, including advanced querying, data transformation, and performance optimization.
• Experience building production ETL/ELT pipelines, distributed data processing systems, and machine learning systems.
• Experience with Snowflake, BigQuery, Iceberg, Apache Spark, Flink, or equivalent technologies.
• Familiarity with Airflow, Dagster, Prefect, AWS or GCP, data modeling, database design, monitoring, and reliability practices.
• Strong problem-solving, communication, collaboration, and technical leadership skills, including mentoring experience.
