R&D Software Engineer VMKernel

Location: USA-CA - Promontory B; must have legal authorization to work in the US

Annual base salary: USD 121,900–195,000

What you will do

• Design and develop operating system techniques and algorithms for managing virtual and physical computer hardware.
• Implement kernel locking techniques, filesystems, and kernel APIs for device drivers, user programs, and other subsystems.
• Develop OS security and patching infrastructure.
• Collaborate with engineering teams to architect, implement, and deliver products based on the VCF virtualization platform.
• Take ownership of core kernel infrastructure and progressively lead larger project areas.

Requirements

• BS in Computer Science or a related field with 8+ years of relevant industry experience, MS with 6+ years, or PhD with 3+ years.
• Strong understanding of kernel-level operating system architectures, including Linux, Unix, Solaris, BSD-like systems, Windows, or embedded real-time operating systems.
• Extensive kernel development experience and expertise with synchronization in preemptive multithreaded environments.
• Experience with Intel x86 CPU and Intel-based server architectures.
• Excellent analytical, debugging, C programming, verbal, and written communication skills.
• Legal authorization to work in the US is required.
