Lead Manufacturing Engineer (Robotics)

Location: Watertown, Massachusetts; on-site

What you will do

• Set technical direction across Manufacturing Engineering, Test Engineering, Quality, and NPI.
• Diagnose complex manufacturing, electrical, mechanical, and test failures and drive permanent fixes.
• Develop and validate manufacturing processes, tooling, fixtures, work instructions, and production controls.
• Build test strategies, automation, infrastructure, acceptance criteria, and traceable results from component testing through end-of-line testing and FAT.
• Lead failure investigations, corrective actions, nonconforming material dispositions, and reliability improvements.
• Drive design for manufacturability, assembly, test, and serviceability, including engineering changes and transfer of new products into stable production.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Computer, or Manufacturing Engineering, or equivalent experience.
• Deep hands-on experience building and debugging complex electromechanical systems.
• Technical leadership across mechanical, electrical, systems integration, and test disciplines.
• Experience building manufacturing processes, tooling, automated test systems, and validation methods.
• Proven results improving quality, first-pass yield, reliability, and throughput, and taking hardware into scalable production.
• Ability to mentor and lead engineers without direct authority, using structured problem-solving and sound engineering judgment.

Nice to have

• Experience with robotics, industrial automation, or similarly complex hardware.
• Test software, Python, SQL, or test automation experience.
• MES/PLM implementation and engineering change control experience.
• Experience scaling manufacturing at a startup or fast-growing hardware company.
• Use of AI and automation to improve engineering workflows.
