ESS Safety Manager (BESS)

Location: Lancaster, California, United States. Work is performed across manufacturing facilities, warehouses, construction sites, customer locations, and BESS project sites, with travel required for approximately 75% of the role.

What you will do

• Develop, implement, and maintain EHS policies, procedures, and safety programs for BESS manufacturing and field operations.
• Manage programs covering hazard communication, LOTO, PPE, electrical safety, emergency response, fall protection, and machine safety.
• Conduct facility, field, and project inspections, audits, job hazard analyses, risk assessments, and safety reviews.
• Lead investigations of injuries, near misses, property damage, battery incidents, and other safety events while implementing corrective and preventive actions.
• Coordinate employee orientations, toolbox talks, refresher training, contractor safety, and visitor safety requirements.
• Maintain OSHA records and safety documentation, track safety metrics, and collaborate with Operations, Engineering, Quality, HR, and Project Management.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in occupational safety, EHS, industrial safety, engineering, or a related field; equivalent experience may be considered.
• At least 5 years of progressive safety or EHS experience, preferably in manufacturing, electrical, energy, construction, or industrial environments.
• Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations and workplace safety practices.
• Experience with incident investigations, hazard assessments, safety audits, root cause analysis, and corrective actions.
• Strong communication, organizational, problem-solving, multitasking, and time-management skills.
• Ability to work at industrial and BESS sites and use required PPE; occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds is required.

Nice to have

• Experience with BESS, lithium-ion batteries, renewable energy, electrical systems, or high-voltage safety.
• OSHA 30-hour certification.
• CSP, ASP, CHST, or another recognized safety certification.
• Experience with ISO 45001, NFPA standards, or safety management systems.
