Senior Data Engineer - API Platform Engineer (API & AI Gateway)

Location: 100% remote within the United States; Rochester, Minnesota is listed as the office location. M–F daytime hours with rotating on-call support.

Salary: $141,024.00–$204,526.40 per year.

What you will do

• Design, develop, and support enterprise API and AI gateway platforms using Apigee, Palo Alto Prisma AIRS, Akamai API Security, and related integration frameworks.
• Build scalable API proxies and services for REST and SOAP integrations with backend systems, microservices, and enterprise platforms.
• Implement API security, governance, lifecycle management, traffic policies, observability, and performance improvements.
• Deploy and operate gateway platforms across GCP, Azure, on-premises, and hybrid environments.
• Develop CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure automation, documentation, runbooks, and onboarding materials.
• Lead architecture decisions, support modernization and migration initiatives, troubleshoot incidents, and mentor engineers.

Requirements

• Minimum five years of professional or research experience with a relevant bachelor’s degree, or seven years with a relevant associate’s degree; equivalent in-depth business or practice knowledge may be considered.
• Advanced SQL and strong experience with scripting languages such as Python, JavaScript, PHP, C++, or Java, plus API integration.
• Experience with batch and streaming data processing, including technologies such as Apache Spark, Hive, Pig, or Kafka.
• Experience with big data, statistics, machine learning, Linux and Windows operating systems, and cross-functional engineering work.
• Experience with API management platforms or gateways, cloud-native infrastructure, Kubernetes, Docker, networking, and multi-cloud or hybrid environments.
• Must live within the United States; visa sponsorship, visa transfer, and F-1 STEM OPT extension support are not available.

Nice to have

• Experience with Apigee X, Terraform, Helm, Azure DevOps, Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Denodo, or DataOps/DevOps.
• Knowledge of Tableau, Power BI, SAS, ThoughtSpot, D3, React, Snowflake, SSIS, or Google BigQuery.
• GCP or Kubernetes certification and experience with agile methodologies.
