Engineering Manager, Backend - International

What you will do

• Lead and support a team of backend software engineers as a player-coach.
• Prioritize, schedule, and deliver projects with Engineering, Design, and Product partners.
• Define the team’s long-term strategy and quarterly roadmap, including goals and success measures.
• Mentor engineers, provide technical and non-technical guidance, and promote continuous learning.
• Drive technical decisions and coordinate requirements and improvement opportunities across teams.
• Attract, hire, develop, and retain a high-performing engineering team.

Requirements

• 7+ years of experience as a software engineer working on production web applications.
• At least 1 year of experience managing a team of engineers.
• Experience prioritizing, developing, and delivering plans.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex concepts to technical and non-technical audiences.
• Empathy, interpersonal skills, and the ability to work cross-functionally.
• Understanding of data structures, data stores, algorithms, distributed systems, and common web development patterns.

Nice to have

• Experience with Golang, Ruby on Rails, JavaScript, MySQL, Kafka, AWS, Git, Memcached, Redis, Elasticsearch, Docker, Terraform, Kubernetes, CircleCI, or Datadog.
