Lead Backend Engineer (AdTech)

Location: Hybrid in Petah Tikvah, Israel; only candidates local to the posting location will be considered.

What you will do

• Lead the backend design, technical roadmap, and delivery of scalable, fault-tolerant platform services and APIs.
• Build low-latency, high-performance microservices and algorithmic solutions for high-throughput, real-time marketplace workflows.
• Design and maintain REST, gRPC, and asynchronous messaging interfaces across a unified platform architecture.
• Select and optimize technologies across JVM, Go, Node, and other ecosystems for performance, concurrency, and memory utilization.
• Own production services, including telemetry, distributed tracing, automated failover, performance tuning, and SLA compliance.
• Mentor engineers, lead code and architecture reviews, and collaborate with product, architecture, and data engineering teams.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience building, scaling, and operating high-throughput backend platforms in production.
• Strong expertise in distributed systems, data structures, memory management, distributed algorithms, and high-concurrency optimization.
• Expertise in at least two backend ecosystems, such as Java, Go, Kotlin, Scala, Python, C++, or TypeScript.
• Experience with relational and distributed data stores, including PostgreSQL, MySQL, Redis, Cassandra, DynamoDB, or Elasticsearch.
• Expertise in enterprise APIs, event-driven architectures, Kafka or RabbitMQ, and microservice integration patterns.
• B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent practical or military experience.

Nice to have

• Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, AWS or GCP, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Exposure to AdTech, ad exchanges, Real-Time Bidding, high-frequency trading, or large-scale analytics platforms.
• Experience integrating machine learning models, inference engines, or automated streaming pipelines into highly available backend services.
