What you will do

• Execute heat penetration testing under the direction of a Thermal Process Specialist, including test container preparation, retort loading and operation, temperature measurement, and data collection.
• Evaluate food products and packaging through quantitative measurements and qualitative observations before and after processing.
• Use laboratory instruments and specialized data acquisition software to monitor, review, and document test results.
• Maintain organized, clean, safe, and test-ready laboratory, pilot plant, and process room areas.
• Coordinate with product developers, Thermal Process Specialists, and other stakeholders on product preparation and testing requirements.
• Identify and escalate testing issues while documenting observations, deviations, measurements, and results accurately.

Requirements

• High school diploma and at least one year of experience in a thermal processing laboratory, QA, or analytical testing environment, or a bachelor's degree in a science-related field.
• Ability to follow standardized procedures and use common laboratory instruments such as scales, pH meters, Bostwick consistometers, and temperature measurement devices.
• Basic mechanical aptitude with equipment, fittings, tools, wires, oils, grease, and fasteners.
• Ability to work in hot and loud pilot plant or process room conditions, operate high-pressure steam retorts, and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
• Strong attention to detail, communication, judgment, and teamwork skills.

Nice to have

• At least one year of experience in thermal processing, food R&D, QA, operations, or another scientific or technical field.
• Experience in laboratory, pilot plant, quality, manufacturing, food science, or technical testing environments.
