Company

Mission Support and Test Services manages and operates the hirify.global for the U.S. National Nuclear Security Administration and supports high-hazard national security experiments with national laboratory partners.

What you will do

  • Design, execute, and analyze dense plasma focus experiments for the NDSE program.
  • Develop, commission, and operate experimental diagnostics.
  • Build, validate, and apply physics models and multiphysics simulations, comparing results with experimental data.
  • Apply machine learning to experiment planning, diagnostic insight, tuning, and data workflows.
  • Author test plans, procedures, technical reports, and presentations for program leadership and external partners.
  • Collaborate with pulsed power, controls, targets, alignments, and operations teams while working with high-voltage, radiation, vacuum, and pressure systems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a calculus-based STEM field.
  • Scientist II requires at least two years of relevant experience and the ability to design and analyze accelerator experiments and simulations.
  • Experience or coursework in accelerator physics, pulsed power, vacuum systems, radiation detection, plasma physics, or optical diagnostics is valuable.
  • Python proficiency for data analysis and strong laboratory skills are desired.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship.
  • On-site work, a valid driver’s license, pre-employment drug testing, physical examination, and federal background investigation are required.

Nice to have

  • Optical plasma diagnostics or vacuum hardware experience.
  • Experience with LSP, CHICAGO, FLAG, COMSOL, MNCP, or Geant4.
  • LabVIEW data acquisition and vacuum alignment experience.
  • Experience leading a small test campaign or subsystem from planning through reporting.

Culture & Benefits

  • Collaboration with Nevada National Security Site, Los Alamos, Livermore, and Sandia National Laboratories.
  • Full-time employment with medical, dental, and vision coverage.
  • Pension, 401(k), paid time off, and 96 hours of paid holidays.
