Research Scientist: Computational Physics (CFD)

Location: Ann Arbor, Michigan, United States; onsite role

Salary: $105,900–$180,000 annually

What you will do

• Use computational fluid dynamics and thermal modeling to guide development of next-generation inspection and metrology tools.
• Build simulations based on multiple physical models and correlate results with experimental data.
• Collaborate with R&D and Engineering teams to understand design needs and define modeling requirements.
• Prepare detailed modeling plans, schedules, and summary reports while maintaining alignment with collaborators and team members.
• Coordinate and perform root cause analysis to solve engineering problems.

Requirements

• Degree or equivalent experience in Applied Physics or Engineering.
• Master's degree with 0 years of related experience, or Bachelor's degree with 2 years of related experience.
• Hands-on experience using modeling to solve sophisticated engineering problems.
• Strong background in computational physics, including plasma modeling, computational fluid dynamics, and mechanical vibrations modeling.
• Ability to work responsibly as a strong teammate and collaborate with multifunctional internal teams, division management, and external customers.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to break down problems for planning, execution, and external customers.

Nice to have

• Experience with rarefied gas flow modeling.
