Senior Engineer / Scientist (CMP)

Location: Onsite in Newark, Delaware, United States; approximately 20% travel may be required. Candidates should be willing to relocate to the Newark area, with possible flexibility during initial onboarding and transition.

What you will do

• Lead complex technical investigations into CMP fundamentals, material behavior, and process interactions.
• Build, optimize, and apply physics-based simulation models connecting consumable properties, process conditions, and polishing performance.
• Evaluate model assumptions, governing equations, material models, boundary conditions, numerical stability, and computational efficiency.
• Design validation experiments, develop calibration and parameter-identification methods, and correlate simulations with laboratory and customer observations.
• Define the predictive modeling capability roadmap and translate scientific findings into product development recommendations.
• Mentor scientists, engineers, and technicians while collaborating with research, applications, product development, manufacturing, and data science teams.

Requirements

• Master’s degree or Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, Applied Mathematics, or a related discipline.
• 5–10+ years of industrial experience solving complex technical problems with scientific and engineering principles.
• Experience with mathematical modeling of physical systems, experimental method development, computational modeling, data analysis, and scientific computing.
• Proficiency with MATLAB, Python, Maple, or similar technical computing environments.
• Expertise in one or more of transport phenomena, fluid mechanics, polymer mechanics, contact mechanics, fracture mechanics, tribology, surface characterization, or materials characterization.
• Willingness to work onsite in Newark, Delaware, as the long-term expectation and to relocate to the Newark area.

Nice to have

• Experience with CMP consumables, polishing mechanisms, and polyurethane structure–property–performance relationships.
• Experience with FEA/FEM, CFD, multiphysics simulation, model verification and validation, sensitivity analysis, or uncertainty quantification.
• Hands-on experience with ANSYS, Abaqus, COMSOL, or high-performance computing.
• Record of technical innovation through patents, publications, or product development contributions.
