Product Design Engineer (Early Career)

Location: Remote, United States; San Mateo, California. Relocation assistance may be available for eligible roles.

Annual base salary: $132,000–$175,000, plus stock options and benefits.

What you will do

• Design mechanical parts and assemblies for aircraft, ground stations, and accessories.
• Integrate custom PCBAs, flex circuits, antennas, and cable harnesses with mechanical designs.
• Collaborate with vendors, operations, supply chain, electrical engineers, and manufacturing teams.
• Plan and run engineering tests, analyze design trade-offs, and verify component performance.
• Support designs throughout the lifecycle from prototypes through pre-production and mass production.
• Investigate failures and identify root causes through detailed debugging.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related field, or expected graduation soon.
• Hands-on product or hardware experience through internships, co-ops, student design teams, research, or personal projects.
• Strong engineering fundamentals and ability to solve open-ended design problems.
• Proficiency in 3D CAD, including multi-part assemblies; CATIA, SolidWorks, NX, Creo, or similar.
• Familiarity with injection molding, CNC machining, casting, or sheet metal manufacturing processes.
• Ability to create clear mechanical drawings, or willingness to develop this skill with mentorship.

Nice to have

• Experience with CATIA, GD&T, tolerance analysis, or FEA.
• Experience with composites or electromechanical systems such as drones, consumer electronics, or robotics.
• Rapid prototyping experience with 3D printing, machine shop tools, or similar.
