Staff QA Automation Engineer (QA Automation)

Location: Cardiff, Wales, UK. Applicants must be legally authorized to reside and work in the UK; international relocation and remote work outside the hiring country are not considered.

What you will do

• Create, own, and improve scalable automated test frameworks, test suites, and continuous-testing infrastructure.
• Design and execute software, device, systems-integration, exploratory, and end-to-end testing.
• Extend software tests to real readers, credentials, controllers, sensors, and supporting infrastructure using physical automation, hardware integration, or simulation.
• Monitor, triage, and resolve CI/CD test failures while documenting changes for new features.
• Own technical designs for complex test initiatives and communicate test results and technical decisions to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Provide technical guidance through design reviews, pairing, test-plan reviews, demonstrations, and team learning sessions.

Requirements

• Current legal authorization to reside and work in the UK is required; immigration sponsorship is not available.
• Engineering degree, equivalent knowledge, or suitable practical experience, with at least seven years of relevant industry experience.
• Substantial experience developing maintainable automated test solutions using scripting or programming languages, including hands-on Playwright experience.
• Experience with Jenkins, CI/CD pipelines, Windows and Linux environments, SQL or NoSQL validation, and Jira or a comparable tool.
• Experience testing Java or React applications and using Java testing frameworks such as JUnit, TestNG, Mockito, or dbUnit.
• Experience with hardware integration, local networks, single-board computers, sensors, relays, stepper motors, secure elements, RFID, NFC, host card emulation, or Bluetooth.

Nice to have

• Experience with TestComplete, Selenium, Cucumber, NuGet, Nexus, Maven, Artifactory, or Bitbucket.
• Experience specifying and delivering physical test systems and coordinating outsourced technical work.
• Experience with Java, C#, C, Bash, PowerShell, or another object-oriented programming language.
