DevOps Engineer (AWS/Kubernetes)

Location: Remote within Australia or New Zealand; work from home, an office, or a mix of both. Availability during Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST, UTC+10:00) business hours is required when needed.

What you will do

• Operate and evolve the Skpr hosting platform on AWS and Kubernetes, including cluster management, incident response, reliability engineering, and capacity planning.
• Monitor platform health with Prometheus, OpenTelemetry, AWS CloudWatch, and related observability tooling.
• Manage platform security through web application firewalls, secrets management, container image scanning, and supply chain security.
• Provision and manage infrastructure with Terraform and AWS, while controlling infrastructure costs.
• Build and improve CI/CD pipelines, GitOps practices, automation, and developer tooling using GitHub Actions and CircleCI.
• Support delivery teams and clients with infrastructure, performance, security, managed services, platform consulting, and architecture decisions.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of experience hosting applications in cloud environments, with essential production experience on AWS.
• Hands-on production Kubernetes experience covering cluster operations, pod security, and networking.
• Strong container ecosystem skills, including Docker, image scanning, and registry management.
• Infrastructure-as-code experience, primarily with Terraform, plus CI/CD and GitOps tooling experience.
• Modern observability and managed-platform security experience, including Prometheus or OpenTelemetry, web application firewalls, secrets management, and supply chain security.
• Strong communication skills and experience supporting development teams across multiple client environments simultaneously.

Nice to have

• AWS Solutions Architect or SysOps Administrator certification.
• Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA) or equivalent experience.
• Experience with Go, Drupal or PHP hosting environments, SRE practices, SLOs/SLIs, Scrum, or other agile methodologies.
• Open source contributions or involvement in the technology community through blogging, meetups, or conferences.
