Automation Engineer (Industrial Automation)

What you will do

• Design, build, commission, maintain, and improve control, automation, and data acquisition systems for engineering laboratory testing.
• Develop and maintain PLC and HMI programs, motion control systems, electrical panels, enclosures, and industrial communication interfaces.
• Plan equipment projects from concept through commissioning, coordinating scope, schedules, purchasing, vendors, and internal engineering partners.
• Troubleshoot automation equipment, instrumentation, test fixtures, data systems, and control configurations to keep testing on schedule.
• Support hands-on hydrostatic, pneumatic, cycle, flex, and fire suppression testing, including instrumentation installation and product inspection.
• Maintain technical documentation, asset records, test data, version control, NIST traceability, and ISO compliance while driving Lean improvements.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering preferred.
• At least 4 years of controls or automation experience.
• Experience with PLC programming using ladder logic, structured text, or function block diagrams.
• Experience with stepper, servo, and VFD motion systems, including drive configuration, encoder feedback, and motion profiles.
• Knowledge of process instrumentation, piping and fluid systems, pumps, valves, pressure and flow measurement, and P&ID interpretation.
• Must already be authorized to work full time in the United States; immigration sponsorship is not available.

Nice to have

• Experience with SQL databases, data modeling, automated data pipelines, LabVIEW, or Ignition SCADA.
• Text-based scripting experience with Python, JavaScript, C++, or similar languages.
• Experience with EPLAN, AutoCAD Electrical, SolidWorks, or AI-assisted engineering tools.
