Senior Applied AI Engineer

Location: Remote in Canada. Occasional travel for in-person company-wide or departmental meetings is expected, typically 1–2 times per year.

Base salary: $150,000–$180,000 CAD per year.

What you will do

• Own computer vision and agentic AI domains, selecting architectures and training or fine-tuning strategies for complex, unstructured data.
• Design and execute experiments end to end, from problem framing through model evaluation and prioritization.
• Build proof-of-concept solutions and take them into production using MLOps tooling and infrastructure.
• Make trade-offs across model accuracy, interpretability, latency, and cost while communicating decisions to stakeholders.
• Embed with product teams and partner with product and engineering managers to identify high-impact AI opportunities.
• Share applied AI expertise with the CivCheck AI Research team and improve experimental rigor across the organization.

Requirements

• 7–10 years of hands-on applied AI or machine learning experience in industry, including shipping models and systems that solved business problems.
• Experience acting as the lead or sole AI expert, taking projects from proof of concept through production.
• Hands-on MLOps experience with model CI/CD, containerization, deployment, and monitoring.
• Production experience with agentic AI workflows and LLM applications, including retrieval, tool use, evaluation, and guardrails.
• Deep experience training and fine-tuning models, plus significant experience with computer vision and image processing.
• Strong Python and software engineering skills, with experience in PyTorch, TensorFlow, JAX, or similar frameworks, cloud ML workflows, Git, testing, and API design.

Nice to have

• Experience in forward-deployed, embedded, or solutions engineering roles.
• Experience building high-accuracy computer vision systems for autonomous vehicles, medical imaging, or industrial inspection.
• Experience in an early-stage or startup environment.
• Interest in ethical and responsible AI development.
• Exposure to construction, building, civic-tech, or regulatory and compliance domains.
