Principal Software Engineer (Platform)

Location: Fully remote, but must be based in the UK or Ireland and already have the right to work there

Salary: Up to £90,000 per year

Global payments technology company building an internal platform across AWS, Azure, GCP, and its own data centres for engineers and AI agents.

What you will do

• Design API-first platform services for compute, networking, identity, secrets, and software delivery.
• Build control planes that manage DNS, load balancers, firewalls, and cloud infrastructure through APIs.
• Develop MCP servers and agent tooling with scoped access, authentication, and full auditability.
• Implement policy as code with OPA and Sentinel, alongside durable workflows in Temporal.
• Build a developer portal and establish engineering standards while continuing to write and own production code.

Requirements

• Principal-level role with senior or lead experience building and operating production services.
• Expertise in C#, Java, Go, or Rust, plus working knowledge of TypeScript.
• Strong API design skills with REST or gRPC, OpenAPI, OAuth 2.0, and OIDC.
• Solid infrastructure knowledge covering DNS, TLS, load balancing, networking, Terraform, and containers.
• Daily hands-on use of agentic coding tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, or Codex, with shipped work to demonstrate.
• Must already have the right to work in the UK or Ireland; visa sponsorship is not available.

Nice to have

• Experience with Temporal, Vault, Consul, Backstage, Cloudflare Workers, or custom Terraform providers.
