Legal Counsel - Financial Markets and Regulatory (Fintech)

Location: Sydney, Australia; occasional travel to other offices and trading locations may be required.

What you will do

• Advise on financial services regulatory, corporate, and technology matters across the Asia-Pacific region.
• Coordinate and negotiate financial markets and trading agreements, including prime brokerage and give-up agreements.
• Advise Trading and Compliance teams on licensing, marketing requirements, and counterparty onboarding.
• Review commercial and technology contracts and propose practical solutions for counterparty matters.
• Research emerging legal and regulatory issues, update policies and procedures, and identify continuous improvements.
• Support corporate governance activities, including Board and Committee meetings, while coordinating with external counsel and global legal teams.

Requirements

• Tertiary qualification in Law with strong academic credentials.
• Admission as a solicitor in Australia or another common law jurisdiction.
• 6–9 years of post-qualification experience at a leading law firm and in-house legal department in financial services or technology.
• Strong legal, regulatory review, drafting, negotiation, and English communication skills.
• Detailed knowledge of financial markets, Australian AML/CTF requirements, and sanctions regimes relevant to APAC trading.
• Ability to manage multi-jurisdictional matters, work independently under tight deadlines, and communicate complex legal issues to non-legal audiences.
