Senior Backend Engineer (Python)

Location: Munich, Germany; strong on-site focus with home working available by arrangement

What you will do

• Design, build, and improve central backend services, optimization-platform APIs, and orchestration logic.
• Integrate external energy management systems, partner solutions, and customer systems.
• Build reliable, well-documented APIs that handle incomplete data, retries, and system outages.
• Own cloud infrastructure, CI/CD, monitoring, alerting, and performance tuning across Heroku and AWS.
• Design scalable systems, identify bottlenecks, and improve observability and production stability.
• Deliver features end to end and contribute to architecture decisions, technical standards, and knowledge sharing.

Requirements

• At least 7 years of experience building and running production backend systems.
• Excellent Python skills with solid experience in FastAPI, asyncio, relational databases, and SQLAlchemy.
• Experience with cloud environments, CI/CD, infrastructure as code, and modern backend operations.
• Strong architectural judgment, ownership, and a pragmatic approach to scalable system design.
• Fluent, business-level German and English required.
• Willingness to work on-site in Munich as part of a small cross-functional team.

Nice to have

• Experience with InfluxDB or other time-series databases.
• Interest in energy systems, optimization algorithms, or mathematical models.
