TL;DR
Robotics Autonomy Engineer, Systems (Robotics): Building and deploying perception systems for autonomous robots operating in harsh, unstructured environments with an accent on localization, mapping, sensor fusion, and field-ready reliability. Focus on integrating LiDAR, cameras, RADAR, and inertial sensors, debugging perception software on physical robots, and scaling robust autonomy capabilities across platforms and missions.

Location: Fully onsite at the Irvine, California office; the posting also lists Peoria, Illinois.

Salary: $100,000–$200,000 per year, plus benefits and equity.

Company

hirify.global develops risk-aware, reliable AI systems and foundational models for robots operating in complex, unstructured real-world environments.

What you will do

  • Design, implement, maintain, and improve perception systems for autonomous robots in off-road and field environments.
  • Develop localization, mapping, SLAM, state estimation, and sensor-fusion capabilities using LiDAR, cameras, RADAR, and inertial sensors.
  • Integrate new sensing modalities and sensor configurations across simulation and physical robotic platforms.
  • Deploy perception algorithms on real robots, debug field issues, and validate performance through testing and operations.
  • Collaborate with autonomy, controls, platform, research, and operations teams to deliver production-ready systems.
  • Develop metrics, tools, tests, and regression checks to improve robustness, maintainability, and scalability across robots and missions.

Requirements

  • PhD in Robotics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field; or an MS with 2+ years of relevant experience; or a BS with 4+ years of relevant experience.
  • Strong experience with robot perception, localization, mapping, SLAM, state estimation, and sensor fusion for real-world robotic systems.
  • Hands-on experience developing and deploying perception software in field robotics environments, not only in simulation.
  • Proficiency in C++, Python, and ROS/ROS2-based systems.
  • Experience working close to hardware, including sensor debugging, calibration, and diagnosing real-world failures.
  • Ability to work fully onsite from the Irvine, California office.

Nice to have

  • Experience with thermal, LWIR, or multispectral sensing and custom sensor-rig integration and calibration.
  • Experience with CI/CD, performance regression testing, benchmarking, and aligning perception stacks across platforms.
  • Leadership in research, field operations, or mentoring junior engineers and researchers.
  • Knowledge of Docker, Kubernetes, and modern DevOps practices.

Culture & Benefits

  • Fully onsite collaboration with flexible working hours.
  • Work on field-deployed robotic systems for unstructured and previously unknown environments.
  • Full benefits, equity, and generous time off.
  • Inclusive workplace focused on creativity, resilience, interdisciplinary collaboration, and technical ownership.
