Senior DevOps/Platform Engineer

Location: Newcastle, Newcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom. Hybrid working with a mix of home working and attendance at the Newcastle Head Office.

What you will do

• Design, build, and maintain GitLab CI/CD pipelines, reusable templates, runners, and pipeline images.
• Automate deployments across a hybrid estate using Puppet, Ansible, and infrastructure-as-code tools.
• Plan staged and rolling releases with health checks, approval gates, failure handling, and tested rollback procedures.
• Build automated quality gates, virtual test environments, acceptance tests, release workflows, and deployment reporting.
• Secure pipelines through protected secrets, least-privilege access, protected branches and tags, and dependency scanning.
• Diagnose Linux, networking, and application issues; configure network equipment; and document deployments, testing, and support handovers.

Requirements

• 3+ years of relevant experience as a DevOps or Platform Engineer.
• Strong expertise in GitLab CI/CD, Ansible or Puppet, Linux administration, release engineering, networking, virtualization, and infrastructure-as-code.
• Experience with Python programming, cloud technologies, monitoring, and hybrid edge-to-cloud environments.
• Degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience, with relevant certifications in CI/CD, infrastructure automation, Linux, cloud technologies, monitoring, or Python.
• Strong ownership of production quality and the ability to test, document, and safely deploy changes across remote and intermittently connected systems.
• Ability to work in a hybrid model from Newcastle, United Kingdom, including attendance at the Newcastle Head Office.

Nice to have

• Kubernetes and GitOps experience.
• Experience with cloud platforms, monitoring, and hybrid edge-to-cloud environments.
• Experience with KVM, QEMU, libvirt, cloud-init, or Packer.
