Senior Software Engineer (Java)

Location: Galway, Ireland; onsite in the Galway office two to three days per week

What you will do

• Design, build, test, deploy, and operate high-throughput Java backend services, APIs, event streams, storage, caching, and consistency mechanisms.
• Own services and components end to end, including on-call participation and post-release support.
• Deliver features from discovery through general availability, including technical documentation, design reviews, and work breakdown.
• Build scalable and reliable systems with observability, SLOs, runbooks, back-pressure, limits, incident response, and post-mortems.
• Collaborate with Agentic AI specialists, Product, Security, SRE, Frontend, and other development teams on the hirify.global Cloud platform.
• Mentor engineers, review pull requests, contribute to API and event standards, and apply security and governance by design.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent experience.
• 4+ years of experience building backend or platform software with strong ownership.
• Strong Java experience and experience designing and operating services on AWS infrastructure.
• Understanding of distributed systems concepts including eventual consistency, fault tolerance, idempotency, and circuit breakers.
• Experience with RESTful API design, gRPC, or event-driven messaging patterns such as Kafka, SQS, or RabbitMQ.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work onsite in Galway two to three days per week.

Nice to have

• Experience with Apache Spark, Pandas, Spark, Flink, EMR, Glue, or data quality tooling.
• Knowledge of LLM systems, including tool use, orchestration, retrieval, evaluations, and cost-latency trade-offs.
• Experience with observability at scale, security, privacy, or governance of enterprise software.
