Principal Software Engineer (RDS Platform)

What you will do

• Define the technical vision and architecture for software updates across millions of database instances, engines, regions, and availability zones.
• Design scalable distributed systems for scheduling, orchestration, deployment, and fleet lifecycle management.
• Develop intelligent scheduling, automated safety mechanisms, and progressive rollout strategies to reduce update latency and customer disruption.
• Provide cross-cutting technical leadership across multiple engineering teams and influence architecture decisions throughout the software delivery lifecycle.
• Mentor engineers, lead architecture reviews, and raise standards for operational excellence and design practices.
• Partner with product and business stakeholders to translate customer pain points into technical roadmaps and platform investments.

Requirements

• 10+ years of engineering experience.
• Experience designing, building, operating, and managing large-scale distributed systems or web services.
• Experience leading architecture and design for reliable, scalable systems.
• Experience with AWS technologies and technical or product roadmaps.
• Experience mentoring engineers or serving as a technical lead.
• Experience with software development lifecycle practices, highly available systems, server fleets, database internals, managed databases, or infrastructure automation.

Nice to have

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent experience.
• Experience optimizing workflows across functions and architecting systems with load balancing and horizontal scalability.
