Mechanical Design Engineer (SolidWorks)

Location: Grand Rapids, Michigan, United States; onsite work with frequent movement throughout the manufacturing facility

Design and manufacture environmental test chambers for customer-specific testing requirements.

What you will do

• Design mechanical structures and perform thermal calculations for environmental test chambers.
• Use SolidWorks, PTC Creo, and AutoCAD to develop chamber designs.
• Prepare drawings for customers, vendors, and production.
• Create chamber bills of materials for production release.
• Work with production to ensure manufacturability and improve design, cost, and quality.
• Present technical information to customers, vendors, and production teams.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• 2–5 years of experience in an industrial product manufacturing environment or equivalent.
• Knowledge of sheet metal design.
• Required experience with SolidWorks and strong computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Strong communication, analytical, mathematical, problem-solving, and multitasking abilities.
• Ability to work onsite with periodic stationary work, frequent facility movement, and occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds.

Nice to have

• Structural steel weldment design experience.
• Knowledge of refrigeration theory, thermodynamics, and heat transfer.
• Experience with AutoCAD, PTC Creo, PDM systems, or ERP systems such as SAP.
