Senior Engineer, Cell Design (Lithium-Ion Batteries)

Location: Alameda, California, United States; onsite. Up to 10% domestic and international travel may be required.

Base pay: $128,000–$162,000 per year, excluding benefits, equity, bonuses, and other rewards.

What you will do

• Lead joint development partnerships, facilitate technical meetings, manage partner relationships, and deliver data packages.
• Design and execute experiments in small and prototype full cells across slurry and coating, electrolyte optimization, cell integration, and electrochemical testing.
• Perform failure analysis on small pouch and prototype cells to identify root causes.
• Apply data analysis, statistical methods, and modeling to interpret results, predict performance, and guide design iterations.
• Communicate plans and results to internal stakeholders, customers, and development partners.
• Develop improved techniques and test methods to identify downstream development challenges earlier and collaborate with cross-functional teams.

Requirements

• Strong experience with lithium-ion batteries and process steps including slurry, coating, cell design, and cell teardown.
• At least a B.S. or M.S. in engineering or science with 2–4 years of experience in batteries or a related field, or a PhD with university experience.
• Proficiency with databases and data analysis tools such as JMP and Python.
• Organized, data-driven approach to problem solving and experimental design, with the ability to manage multiple projects.
• Strong communication skills with internal teams and external customers, along with an understanding of laboratory safety practices.
• Ability to work onsite in Alameda, California, wear required personal protective equipment, and pass a respirator fit test when needed.
